Following the PACE-NET Key Stakeholder Conference “Strengthening Pacific-European Collaboration in Research, Development and Innovation”, held in Brussels on 20-22 March 2012, five sectorial policy brief drafts were prepared by a team of research stakeholders from the Pacific and the EU. The draft policy brief on “Climate Change, Agriculture and Forestry in the Pacific” is available for download.

The launch of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is just around the corner (www.ipbes.net). IPBES will be a global scientific authority providing information and knowledge relevant to policy and strategic decisions on the conservation of biodiversity and the use of ecosystem services.

Coastal and marine areas offer significant opportunities for economic development, leisure and living. They host rich but fragile biodiversity. Transparent planning and management of European waters are needed to balance the interests at play against sustaining the long-term benefit of coastal and marine resources to society.

With these objectives in mind, the European Commission has launched a public consultation to explore options for future EU action on Maritime Spatial Planning and Integrated Coastal Zone Management. The Commission is seeking the views of all interested individuals and organisations. The consultation runs for eight weeks (until 19 May 2011)
